About our Church

Whorton Bend United Methodist Church is a typical southern church, where everyone seems like "family." Most of the people who attend are members of the growing community of Whorton Bend or surrounding areas. We have a caring congregation, where everyone shows their love and concern in times of trouble or illness. If you are looking for a church to call home, we invite you to come and experience this same feeling with us!!

We very much like to boast of our musical program! With an accomplished music director, an outstanding organist, one of those pianists who plays naturally, a guitarist who adds a magnificent sound, and a choir which melds together to make beautiful music every Sunday, it's no wonder we have reason to boast! Several new comers have said that is what they like most about our church, the music program. We invite you to come and experience it also! Their music gives a spiritual life to everyone who hears it! Every first Sunday night of each month we enjoy a great time of sharing and worshipping through music in congregational hymn-singing and/or special music. We invite you to come and praise Jesus with us and enjoy some favorite hymns and good uplifiting songs!

The Sunday School Department of Whorton Bend United Methodist Church consist of classes to help meet the personal and spiritual needs of all age groups: children, youth, and adults. We are constantly striving to enrich the lives of everyone with the knowledge of Jesus Christ through the study of biblically based literature prepared by excellent curriculum writers within the United Methodist Church. Sunday School begins at 10 AM and a nursery is provided. We warmly invite you to join us for this time of fellowship and learning!

Here at Whorton Bend, we treasure our young people, children and youth, simply because they are the future of this church, and the future defenders of Christ in our world! We have small group, but that doesn’t mean they are not active! There are many game nights at the church, especially during the summer time, Sunday school at 10:00 AM every Sunday, and just about a weekly get together to go out to eat and usually catch a movie afterwards! We invite your young people to come join our group! They will be blessed by the fellowship and friendships they will find here! We pray that God blesses your young people as He has blessed ours!

Our United Methodist Womens' and Mens' Group are very active in providing for Missions, both local and International through the United Methodist Church. Both groups play big parts in the upkeep and maintenance of the church property! The United Methodist Women meet every 3rd Thursday of each month at 6:30 PM and the United Methodist Men meet every 3rd Saturday of each month at 7:30 AM for breakfast! Come be with us and receive a blessing!

Everyone in the church plays an important role in the upkeep and maintenance of the buildings (inside and out), and the property we sit on. We take great pride in the appearance and maintenance of our church, prompting people to refer to it as "The pretty little white church on Whorton Bend Road".

We enjoy several fellowship events during the year, such as: a Valentine's social, an Easter Program, an Independence Day Program and celebration, followed by a Thanksgiving Feast & celebration, a huge Christmas celebration, with special performances by our choir and/or others, and a Christmas dinner also, with great food prepared by the best of talents!

If you're in the area, drop by for a visit, there is always a pew ready for you! We promise you will be welcomed with a lot of love. Our #1 mission is serving God and reaching out to everyone we come in contact with! If you are not close enough to visit, pray for us. We worship each Sunday Morning at 11 AM and Sunday Evening at 6 PM, and on Wednesday for Bible Study at 6:00 p.m. A nursery is provided with loving and caring folks to tend to the little ones. Sunday fellowship begins at 9:00 a.m. with Coffee Hour. We warmly invite you to come and join us for fellowship before Sunday School!
